Prairie House
Location: Inland Empire, CA
The design proposal for a vacation home for a small family is situated in a hot summer and cool winter Southern California inland prairie. The design responds by taking advantage of the climate by using large fenestration surfaces covered with deep overhung trellises for maximum views and minimum solar heat gain. The long thin configuration of the house allows maximum ventilation from clerestory windows to minimize cooling demands in the summer, while allowing passive heat gain for the winter.
